Seeking counseling or therapy can feel a bit nerve wracking. You don’t know what to expect, and the thought of vulnerability can be overwhelming. That’s TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE! At Oceanic Counseling, we do our best to make your first, (and subsequent appointments) as seamless as possible.
Before your first appointment: You will receive an email with a link to fill out all of the necessary paperwork. The sooner you fill the paperwork out, the sooner your insurance can be verified, and your counselor can learn about you.
24 hours before your appointment: An email, and/or a text reminding you of your upcoming appointment.
The day of your appointment: We ask that you arrive 10-15 mins early to allow ample time for check in.
When you arrive at the office, you will be greeted, and asked to sign in. Your temperature will be taken due to Covid-19 regulations. We will make a copy of your driver’s license, (parent/legal guardian’s driver’s license is required for minors), a copy of your insurance card (if using insurance), and a copy of the debit/credit card we have on file.
Once your co-pay/payment is processed, you will be provided with a session summary sheet, and asked to have a seat in the waiting area. Your counselor will come out and get you at your appointment time.
Your first session with your therapist: During your first therapy session, your counselor will review the informed consent with you. Your counselor will ask you questions about family history, relationship history, and other questions relevant to your treatment. You and your counselor will discuss the plan for therapy that will best help you achieve your therapeutic goals. Depending on your therapeutic needs, you may come weekly, or bi-weekly.
Subsequent sessions: During your subsequent sessions, you and your therapist will address and work on meeting your therapeutic goals. You may or may not be asked to complete homework in between sessions to help you develop and strengthen coping skills.
